Dick Vandervoort spent 17 years as the head athletic trainer for the Houston Rockets. He succeeded Joe O'Toole as second chairman of the NBATA Executive Committee and served from 1977 to 1987. He was voted the NBA Athletic Trainer of the Year in 1983. He and Joe O'Toole were influential in helping the NBATA become the first athletic training organization recognized by a professional sports league.
